Slavery and Human Trafficking Statment
Rooted Garden Care is a brand of Living Leaves Limited, trading as Alaster Anderson, part of the Alaster Anderson Group. We are committed to preventing modern slavery and human trafficking within our business and across our supply chains, and we take a zero tolerance approach to any form of exploitation.
This statement is made under section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and sets out the steps we take to understand and reduce the risk of modern slavery and human trafficking in our operations and supply chain. It applies to Living Leaves Limited and the brands and trading names operated within the Alaster Anderson Group, including Rooted Garden Care.
Our business
Rooted Garden Care delivers premium, year round garden maintenance for private homes and estates. Our work involves employed staff, trusted specialist partners, and suppliers of horticultural materials, equipment, uniforms, vehicles, and professional services.
Our policies and standards
We expect everyone working for, with, or on behalf of Rooted Garden Care to act ethically, lawfully, and with respect for human rights. This includes fair treatment, safe working conditions, and compliance with employment and immigration law.
We maintain internal controls and ways of working that support these standards, including appropriate onboarding, clear expectations for suppliers and subcontractors, and record keeping that helps us spot risk factors early.
Due diligence in our supply chain
We aim to work with reputable suppliers and partners who share our values. Our approach is proportionate to the nature of our business and the level of risk, and typically includes checks such as:
Confirming who we are buying from, and who is providing labour.
Requiring suppliers and specialist contractors to confirm they comply with relevant laws and do not use forced, bonded, or trafficked labour.
Reviewing higher risk categories more closely, for example labour only subcontracting or suppliers with complex overseas sourcing.
Keeping purchasing relationships stable where possible, because continuity makes oversight easier.
Concrete example
If we bring in a specialist team for a large clearance and removal job, we confirm the business identity, ask for evidence of right to work processes, and ensure the team is paid directly by their employer under lawful arrangements, rather than through informal cash in hand labour.
Risk assessment
Modern slavery risks vary by sector and geography. In our context, the higher risk areas can include labour supply chains, waste handling subcontractors, and certain manufactured goods sourced internationally. We focus our attention on these areas, and we review how we buy and who we appoint when our services change, we expand into new locations, or we add new suppliers.
Training and awareness
We support awareness of modern slavery risks among those responsible for appointing suppliers and managing subcontractors. We also encourage a culture where concerns can be raised early and taken seriously.
Raising concerns and reporting
Anyone who has a concern relating to modern slavery or human trafficking connected to our business should raise it promptly. Concerns can be reported by contacting us using the details on the Rooted Garden Care website, or by writing to our registered office.
We will investigate credible concerns, take appropriate action where issues are identified, and work with relevant parties to address risk. Where necessary, we will end relationships with suppliers or contractors who do not meet our standards.
Measuring effectiveness
We keep this approach under review and improve it over time. Measures we use may include supplier confirmations on compliance, outcomes of appointment reviews for higher risk categories, and any issues raised through reporting channels and how they were resolved.
Approval
This statement is approved by the management of Living Leaves Limited and is reviewed annually.
